Vintage Sports-Car Club - All Set For The Winter Season

  • The Lakeland Trial - 11 November
  • Cotswold Trial - 18 November
  • The Winter Driving Test - 2 December

As the Vintage Sports-Car Club draws to the end of their sprint and hill climb season,  the Club’s collective attention turns to the exciting winter discipline of Trials.

Trials are an untimed form of motorsport, where Competitors attempt to climb a number of set routes up muddy hills. The competitor with the highest number of points for travelling the furthest up the hills will win! A fun addition in the cars are ‘Bouncers’ who navigate the driver between sections on the public highway, and bounce inside the car, giving the car more grip and helping it to travel further up the hill and score more points!

Perhaps the ”granddaddy” of all club Trials, the Lakeland, which has been running since 1968, takes members up to the stunning Lake District on the 11th November to face a long established challenges of the event in the midst of  glorious scenery.

Just a week after ‘The Lakes’ comes The Cotswold Trial on the 18th November. Based at the Bugatti Owner’s Club’s Prescott Hill Climb venue near Gotherington near Cheltenham, this Trial is the only one in the VSCC calendar that features a class for Novices and thus spectators are afforded ample opportunity to watch what is going on, and to compare the different cars and drivers, expert and beginner, and their approaches to the Trials sections. There is guaranteed to be plenty of variety, with Austin Sevens and Models A Fords predominating, although exotica from Bugatti and Chrysler to Frazer-Nash and MG are as likely to do well within a capacity entry of 110 cars.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Trial at Prescott between noon and 4pm, and the purchase of a programme for just £4 gives access to one of the most fun and entertaining disciplines on the VSCC’s varied calendar. The Bugatti Owners’ Club House will be open for hot food and drinks and will host the post event awards ceremony.
