Pre-war Nissan Patrol ?!?

How to give some fun to your jobSomething bizzare...? Michael Kurz spotted this "working horse" at the Salzburg Classic Expo last autumn. There is something like a Nissan Patrol Diesel engine chassis under it. It's been in use for towing a trailer. But where came the body from? Something US-made we presumed at first sight, however.... after closer inspection of the louvre doors we think it could be a 1936 Hanomag Sturm. Next question is what are they hauling in? Opel Kadett or Olympia? We truly hope it's not a Nissan in disguise as well.

This is almost certainly an Eastern European (and quite possibly Romanian) import, judging by the Romanian-made tail lights. Most such cars were re-enginged in the 60s and 70s to keep going, as well as having other modifications. A lot then got exported to the West in the early 90s, including some very rre models (you recently ran an rticle on a rather wonderful Mercedes 170H). Almost certainly the cost of restoring this particular car to the original would far exceed its potential market value. So - good that it's still going.

So-comments from 3 people, but all think this is OK,seemingly.I dont! The car was rare, the body seemingly in good condition. If so,I expect the chassis & most of the mechanical bits were at least reasonable. If the engine was no good, then a suitable, simila r,old petrol replacement could have been found. There is too much of this "special building" going on in Europe. No respect for history,or the pleasure of driving a nice old saloon car on quiet roads.

Sure the 'trailer-queen' is an Opel Kadett. Might even be a 1937 model. Body type is a cabrio-coach.

Yes, it´s a 6 window limousine (Ambi-Budd) Hanomag Sturm 6-cylinder, first typ from 1934-36. The trailer-queen seems to be an Opel Kadett Spezial 1938. But I´m not sure.

I'm so glad that Other people do it as well !
Put modern chassis / engines under / in Original Bodies, that is !
Like here in Bangkok, where people either, can't get the parts, or they are just too expensive for them.
The Nissan Patrol, in it's first guise, came out in September 1951, as the 4W60, similar to the Willys Jeep
Therefore I doubt very much if it could be a "Pre-war" Patrol
Stuart :-)
