About Quiz # 338: 1916/17 Scania Vabis, Typ 1 Phaeton (update: correct accesoires!)

A massive response came in on this very rare car. No less than 25 people were right about the make! And most of those also about the the type. (sorry that the photo title was a bit of a give away; at least two people were so honest to tell us about this). As the car had a colorful past - it was changed into a tractor in the thirties) it is hard to say if it looks exactly as how it left the factory. We particularly liked the competitors who came up with a little bit of discussion about the non standard wire wheels, the (1915?) V- radiator and electric lighting. In this respect we want to mention Anders Svenfelt, John Krabbendam,  Ariejan Bos, Alan Spencer, Fritz Hegeman. Yet finally we decided the winner this week is our youngest competitor in PWC's history who wrote (possibly with a little help of his father, but still): "Its a 1917 Scania-Vabis type I. The Type 1 was produced from 1914 -1925, 305 were produced totally. At least 5 type I have survived, four of them with Phaeton coachwork and 1 closed one. The replica coachwork on this Type 1 was made in Sweden by Edlund and Olsson. The car has a 4 cylinder 2,102 cc engine, bore is 78 and stroke is 110 mm. The car was prior owned by Jan Westas, and sold at the Äppelbo auction." Congratulations Aleksander Langsaether (11 years old)

special thanks to  Stig Fransson who provided photos and information:  This car was changed into a tractor in the 1930´s and the wreck (+ parts from another car) were saved in the 1960´s. Sadly the restorer Jan Westas died 2008, current owner Stig Larsson from Uppsala managed to buy the project + parts from two separate auctions 2011 and finished restoring.
