IMG 20130207 125435
Some guys have all the 'luck'. Suppose you are a young and brilliant aero engineer. You start a real bussiness in february 1913 called 'Moteurs Salmson' . You have some 20-30 employees and build 8 engines every month. The next year WWI is breaking out and your business takes of like a rocket... After the war Salmson had become a big industry and they started making cyclecars and more. Check the Amicale Salmson for more

Blitzen Benz revisited

t

Over the years we have seen hundreds of photos of the unbelievable 1909 'Blitzen'Benz. The first car to pass the 200 KM/hour line at Brooklands. 202,7 km to be exact. Only two years later the four cylinder 21,5 litre chaindriven beast set a new record on Daytona beach with pilot Bob Burman: 228,1 km/h . A record that would stand for eight years. The car is a full recreation by Mercedes Benz. But still to see the car 'in the flesh' brings nothing less than sheer emotion. It is also much larger than we ever could imagine.  It's a real beast. The mighty Benz. Hats of for the german engineers! This week to be seen at Paris Retromobile. (photos JB)

I saw this Fantasic Benz at the Retromobile, but whey looks it just as it
has left the Fabrik 2013?
There are posibilleties to restore a Car
as it is done in the way as it left Benz
in the old days.
I do not understand why Mercedes restored
this car in that way.

Quoting William Evans:
I was part of the restoration team and this car is 100% real. The body was redone in 1934 for the 50th anniversary of Benz. Every nut and bolt on this car is real.

I really believe you William, but what is that car doing there at Pebble Beach? is it maybe a fake...? (see the start-up blitzen benz at youtube)

But there are more of these cars still around, I think. And anyway it's a handful to just start it up.
