Caring for the sick and wounded
Checking our 'Wanted' adverts we sometimes feel there must be a story behind a simple text line. And that's just the case with this advert. Hans Waldeck is a retired surgeon with a knack for historical research. As a young doctor he became very interested in the development of the ambulance and over the years has written several books about these cars and the companies that used them. During his research he found
this very derelict body of a 1920 Dodge that started life as a passenger car, but in 1928 was
made into an ambulance by Dutch coachbuilder
van Koppen. Only the driver could sit in front, a small hatch in the separation made contact possible with the patient. The Dodge remained in service until 1936, and then became some sort of camping car. During and after World War II it was stored in an attic. Several engine and chassis parts were already missing by then. Hans is very keen to restore the ambulance body, as that is his main interest, but it would be nice if the ambulance will be drivable again. Anyone having
a spare chassis and engine lying about?
