First Impressions Retromobile

armoured world_war_1_ammunition_carrier_prewar-1

Yesterday we arrived at Retromobile Paris, and as always it is a great privilege to look around while the stands are still under construction and unbelievable cars are driven and pushed around to find their expo destination. We will try to keep track with the most intriguing automobiles and events around us and report to you.

Armoured World War l ammunition (?) Carrier ; part of a WW I dedicated exposition. It appears the designer did worry more about  the radiator core than about the chauffeur. The fresh restored V12 Sunbeam record will be started tomorrow around  noon. This will be the first time in 90 years it can be heard on the continent. Sir Malcolm Campbell used it in Denmark in 1924. Next to the Sunbeam the ex Count Zborovski Parry Thomas  'Babs' is on display. This famous car will be started as well along the Sunbeam. This will be a vintage stereo record...

Those armoured Rolls-Royces seemed to do OK in the desert. "If I could have anything, it would be a Rolls-Royce and petrol to run it forever." -T.E. Lawrence

Could you let us know the make of the armoured car? I believe Russell of Canada made several vehicles for the war effort, but I don't know what they looked like.

Thanks

Hard to believe it would have originally been white - for target practice maybe???

As for the radiator that has no air going through it, this is like the indestructible Zeppelin, which was covered in armour plate and hence indestructible as it could never get off the ground...!!

Cetainly is a no frills bohemoth! Imagine trying to unbog it from battle-field mud!
