From your 'dearest' Valentine...

shell valentine_advert_1939_punch_470
February 1939, a well meant message from a wellknown premium petrol retailer. Read it like you want. Now when we read it, we wondered what would have been the first car - or maybe better first carburettor - with automatic choke. Yet keep in mind this may not be the perfect conversation topic when dining out with your Valentine tonight...

Shell of course! I also have a vast collection (over 25 years worth) of automotive postcards but still enjoy seeing the endless varities form other collections. When I tell folks I collect automotive postcards, thoughts automatically turn to those with photographic images. Good for sure, but somehow I feel cards such as these offer so much insight into the early history.

The Scallop shell on the card tells the story ...."when your tank is full of "......Shell.

Am I correct?

Talking of choke, I thought of smoke.
The butt of many a TROJAN joke.

Happy Valentine's Day..... Trojan-style.
