Previous FeaturesPre-war MG R suspension for new Ferrari F1. Hartmut of Bochum, Germany read in the 'Frankfurter Algemeine' (3 August '04) about new developed Sachs shockabsorbers for the Ferrari F1 cars. The idea is based on the priciple of the rotating Girling Luvax arm-shocks. Hartmut wondered if we can arrange for photos showing these on prewar MG's. Bas de Voogd was kind enough to crawl under his MG VA and make this clean close-up (clic). A second question was if this system was in use on prewar racers and how the shocks are combined with the springs in that case (Ferrari is using transverse torsion bars, just like MG did in '35). Bas sended a view of the 1935 MG R (clic) from his collection. The similarity with the 70 years younger ZF-Sachs design is astonishing...
Does anyone know of other racing cars that made use of similar systems in that era? Maserati? (photos & info courtesy Bas de Voogd / HauntedSaloon.org)
Talking about shocks: Bas' Luvax set is sold recently. Now only one set of Armstrongs is in stock. Feel welcome to post a Free For Sale or Wanted text advert. Or support yourself and PreWarParts by posting a paid photo advert.
