About # 177 Maybach Zeppelin D8S by Auer

This was an inspiring coachbuilders quiz! Competitors and jury members came up with no less than ten (!) different firms. Spohn was mentioned most. Followed by Autenrieth, Gläser, Erdmann & Rossi, Voll & Ruhrbeck, Dörr & Schreck, Reuter, Hebmüller and Wendler. Jurymember Henk Visscher gambled with the name "Christian Auer Karrosseriefabrik, Cannstatt". We received the photos of the son of W.Herzog who was a craftsman at the Auer works. So Hans Visscher is very-very right. With this photo a tiny bit of history has been added to what was known from Maybach. This exact car is shown on page 76 of Metternich's book, but without the name of a coachbuilder! Anyway, the best - totally identical - answers came in form both Arthur Jones (US) and Tony Paalman (US): "Maybach 'Zeppelin' DS8 Stromlinienlimousine Sonderanfertigung." By exeption both gentlemen will get the PreWarCar gillet. (photo courtesy R. Herzog, Germany)
