Quiz ArchiveAbout Quiz #. 300: Wow! We were suprised to see how good your memory for production numbers is! Many came close, very close to the 300 line. Adrian P.T. : The 1935 Wanderer W245 apparently had a production of 290, according to automotive historian Johan Anderssen. Gareth Morgan: "The Talbot AU '65' had a production run of 320 cars before it gave way to the type AX. Info from S.T.D.Register". Ian Murray: "Having just bought an E Type Vauxhall 30-98, I would submit that 13 pre WW1 E Type 30-98s were produced and a further 274 E Type 30-98s post WW1 (up until 1922) giving a production run of 287. Source: Georgano, N. (2000). Bogdan Coconiu: "Aero 30 Roadster - 299 units" (!). Ace Zenek: "1929 Chevrolet Model AC Convertible Landau (aka Imperial Landau). Approximately 300 were built. There are at least 16 still known. Reference: Sixty Years of Chevrolet by George H. Dammann, p.75Yet we also have various competitors that are spot on (sorry John & sorry Frans, we only took into account pre-war production figures). Three candidates remained. Fiat Tipo 5, Lion-Peugeot, Pierce Type 51, Cadillac V16 leaving us with five possible winners: Robert Ronky (Cadillac V16), Callum Walsh (Cadillac V16), Peter Flanangan (Lion-Peugeot), Allistair 'Bud' Smith (Fiat Tipo 5) and Edin Mass ( Series 51 Pierce). About the Fiat Tipo 5 (main visual): For the year of 1909/1910 Fiat produced the Tipo 5, The car was rated at 35/50 HP, featured a 4 cylinder engine of 7429cc and 4 speed right hand change transmission. Conventional (of the time) braking system of transmission and rear wheel drum set up. The Tipo 5 sat on semi elliptic suspension all round and a wheelbase of 3240mm and 1400mm track. Trivially it was available as bevel or chain drive. Most importantly, exactly 300 units were produced. The main photos are showing a 1910 Tipo 5, this example is believed to have a custom body designed by Ralph Salem of Bologna, Italy. Ralph Salem is pictured sitting in the car. Note that it is the bevel drive example of the Tipo 5. About the Lion-Peugeot (Peter Flanagan): 300 examples of the Lion Peugeot, model V2Y2, were built at the Peugeot factory at Beaulieu in 1910. Chassis numbers were from 3441 to 4327. Info from "La Production Peugeot de 1889 a 1928". About the Pierce (Edin Mass): a 1919 Series 51 Pierce, one of 300 made that year in the series 51 cars. About the Cadillac V16 ( Robert Ronky and Callum Walsh): 1932 Cadillac 452B (V16) According to The Cadillac Database on Carnection , the production summary shows that they built 300 engine/chassis combinations, including one for 1933 pre-production. As there is no way to say that one spot on answer is better thant the other we decide to pronounce all 5 senders as winners. They will all receive the PreWarCar Reporter Cap. Congratulations!
