About quiz # 179 > 1934 Vale Special

The pictured HF 9797 is a 1934 registered Vale that is lost in history, probably in Holland (see next page) and the muse of Vale Special researcher David Nelms. No less than 20 competitors came up with more or less the same answer! So it proved very hard to differentiate between all these knowledgeable men... Interesting to see is that some people write Vale Special where others write Vale. Checking various sources we found everywhere Vale as the marque. Yet we understand form David Nelms that it is debatable what the name of the marque is. Vale or Vale Special. But this was not really the issue here. In the end we found that from all 20 competitors the most interesting details came to us from Holger Kempf from Germany ! He came up with all these nice details which you don't find in Geaorgano or the like. Is he a young and coming Vale historian? Or was he just clever enough to find the pages of other Vale expert Ian Holmer. Whatever the truth, congratulations Holger! (photos courtesy David Nelms) David Nelms is compiling this index in conjunction with the author Dave Cox and would be pleased to hear from anyone with any detail however small and seemingly insignificant. David writes about the shown lost car:" Vale HF 9797 ? registered 1934. David Nelms restored the car and used it for every day work until he sold it on to an owner in London in the 1960s.The original colour was dark green but was re-sprayed pale yellow with tan upholstery. Its distinctive feature was the absence of the n/s wind deflector and was fitted with fixed cycle wings. It may have gone overseas or even been broken up for spares in which case the front axle, front chassis cross-member or bulkhead casting may reveal a vital clue as to the chassis number- probably VS341 ? 344 or later. Any known information of its history would be much appreciated. \n This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
