About Quiz # 190: Rolls Royce 20 HP

Some said they really like this coachwork. Others said it is the ugliest Rolls ever. How different can we think. However, most of you agreed this is a Rolls. Also most of you agreed this being a 20 HP. A bit thinner became the selection when it came to clueing the right year to it: 1923. After that we still had a few more than one on board: David Manson (AU), Keith Canouse (US)
Harry Schley (Germany), David Green (NZ) and our loyal mysteries & quiz sponsor
Hans Compter . The winner continued with: 'If the word "borders" is a hint, I would go for Claude Hamilton of Aberdeen (north of the Border). Possibly, Martin and King of Melbourne, Fleetwood of NY, or Franay of Paris.' And yes he was totally correct in our suggestion to stay away from London as far as possible. With this he was the only competitor (jurymember Hans Compter as well) who mentioned the name of Martin & King of Melbourne in conjunction with this car. So that alone was enough to win, but as a last punch ball he mentioned the towbar as unconventional fitting. Congratulations David Green! Special thanks to Anton van Luijk (
Retrocar.nl) who just found this car in Australia and brought it to Holland. And to RR expert André Blaize who provided background info on this car.
Andre Blaize reported about this car upon our request:"It was delivered new to Australia and fitted with a tourer made by an unknown local coachbuilder (possibly Waring Bros.). Later, in about 1929, it received a 2 door fixed-head coupe body by Martin & King which is still on."
