About Quiz # 204 ...: 1923 Rolls Royce 20 HP

No matter how difficult our quizes are at times, sometimes winning is not that hard. This time the best competitor did not need more than "1923 Rolls-Royce 20HP" for the simple reason that not anybody had a better answer... Many were misled by our remark about the 'rebody' which only says that another coachwork was fitted to the chassis at some point. Some even thought it was no Rolls-Royce at all. And then we had the romantic Norwegian Stein Tranvik...(see his observations regarding the body under Read More). More details were not necessary... this time! It was of course a Rick Ford photo!. In the late fifties he photographed this fine Rolls at the vintage car hide-out "Jack O'Lantern" when vintage cars still were just old cars. Click the main photo to see what we mean with 'old car'. The details are: "...an early Rolls Royce 20 HP, Chassis GA21, 1923, Reg. XP5239, originally a Thrupp and Maberly coupe. Shown here with Carlton body fitted pre-war. Congratulations to Harry Schley from Germany! One last question of your editor, is XP5239 still around? \n This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I remember seeing this lady somewhere else a few years earlier, and then she had the same body shape, same hair style and attitude. I can agree that she might have had another outfit - but she is not rebodied! The photographer is not easy to tell - as there were many taking up this style of composing photos. But it is definitely from the Great Britain - just look at the tan skin of the beautiful lady. It is a pity that this dark car is hiding the beautiful flowers in the background. What a photo it would be - just imagine this young lady in front of a rose garden - on a blanket..."
