About Quiz # 212. <br> 1899 Delahaye rear entrance tonneau

For most competitors this fine early motorcar was too tough to chew. However we had no less than three jurymembers - Lars-Göran Lindgren, Dick Trenk and Mark Dawber who all came up with the correct make: Delahaye. Luckily two man saved the honour of the worldwide legion of competitors. Francisco Carrion and Henry Smith both coughed up Delahaye as well. Henry was however more precise:"I believe this is an 1899 Delahaye Type 1 with the twin cylinder 9hp engine, one of 375 of this chassis type manufactured at Tours. This car will be travelling down the Brighton Road on November 4th this year as entry number 40, one of 3 Delahayes of this chassis type entered. Having been perplexed by most of your what is it quiz pictures, this is the first that I can positively identify!" Congratulations Henry Smith, you went the extra mile, just like the Pueches did 40 years back during the gruesome
winter of 1963! Real car afficionados from father to son the Madrid based company has grown up to a internationally recognised party. They just have launched their new bilingual website
www.Pueche.com. The 1899 Delahaye made a testdrive for London-Brighton only two weeks back around the
Jarama Circuit (probably the fastest Delahaye lap ever done there;
Check ! )! (photos collection Pueche)
