About quiz 223: Lancia Augusta 1933

We saw this restoration project a few years ago at the Beaulieu Autojumble. It is not an MG KN, not an Alvis, not a Citroën nor a Fiat Ballila. It is of course a Lancia Augusta that, according to the owner, was built in 1933. However, we decided to be a bit flexible on this because the wheels are from a later date. We did give you the clue that it was a 1200cc engine and if you would have looked closely you could see only two spark plugs, thus revealing a V4 which was unique for this model. This we found in the answer of Marc Fellman who wrote in exactly 100 words: “This a 'series one' Lancia Augusta. 1933 or 1934 build. Introduced at the Paris and Olympia Shows with production starting in 1933. Production spanned three series. Sported an 1194cc 18 degree V4 which 'L'Auto Italiana' squeezed 103.45 kph from in a 1933 road test. Featured traditional Lancia pillar type front suspension and a pillarless four door pressed steel body. Successful at such events as the Mille Miglia and RAC Rally. Most notable success was a 1,2,3,4 class win in the 1936 Targa Florio. Produced in France as the Belna between 1933 and 1937.
