About quiz 237: Triangel

As we said… last weeks quiz question was easy. Finding the right answer… that’s another matter. Many of you were wrong-footed because we mentioned Edison and electric motors. No, our quiz car was not a Baker Electric nor a Tesla designed Westinghouse. Very close came João Pedro Gazineu from Brazil who mentioned the Danish make Thrige. Their founder, Thomas B. Thrige, was Edison’s apprentice and made cars under his own name. In 1918 Thrige merged with Anglo-Dane and JAN to form DeForenede Dansk Automobilfabriker AS. The new company, named Triangel, produced trucks and busses until 1958. However, after the Great Wart they experimented with passenger cars like our saloon and there was also a tourer. Only one quiz candidate came up with the right answer: Tim Olley, who years ago happened to find a Triangel badge and script at an autojumble and gathered as much information as he could find about the make. Congratulations Tim on your second win! (Photo courtesy Uffe Mortensen and the Odense City Museum).
