About quiz 238: 1939 Buick Special with Tüscher body

Last week we described our quiz car as having a waterfall grille. Michael Ware questioned this and sought our definition. Basically it is -we think- every type of grille with a flowing line and thin vertical bars, but of course there's a difference between the Niagara and the rapids in a brook or stream. This week every one of the competitors had the make and year right. Of course it was a 1939 Buick. The model proved more difficult. Some said it was a “Century” but if you had read our clues carefully you could have known the right answer. We wrote: “it isn’t the standard model’, which in other words means our quiz car was the “Special”. We had many guesses at the bodywork, most mentioned Graber and Gläser, but this Buick’s body was made by Tüscher of Switzerland, who in the 1930s bodied many American chassis. Only one competitor had all the correct answers: Dutch car historian Frans Vrijaldenhoven who now with his third win joins the ranks of our distinguished jury members. Congratulations Frans!
