About quiz #244: 1913 Abbott-Detroit Battleship 44-50 Roadster

We haven’t given you many clues on this one, as we thought the distinctive radiator would be a give-away. On the contrary, we received only seven correct answers: Steven Lines, David Brownell, David Miller, Jinn Marie Davis, Ian Hayhurst, John Chevers and John Rehberg all identified it as a 1913 Abbott-Detroit Battleship 44-50 Roadster. The badge, which we removed in the quiz photo, would have been an easy give-a-way to the make. Weighing all correct answers we decided the winner should be Steven Lines, who quoted from his original A-D sales brochure: “Regular equipment included an electric self-starter, and Goodyear "No-Rim-Cut" tyres. Top with Jiffy storm curtains, windshield and speedometer with clock-set combination was $100 extra!” What convinced us was that Steven also added the original price of $2150 as we doubt that the purchase price of $1250 mentioned in the Standard Catalogue is correct. This is an error and should be $ 2150 as A-D’s cheapest model in 1913 had a sticker price of $1900! Congratulations on your first win, Steven! (With lots of thanks to Hugh Nutting who supplied the information and photos)
