About Quiz 245: 1913 Enfield Tourer

Last week’s quiz proved a difficult one, as we received only two correct answers. One from juror Roger Fields and the other from João Pedro Gazineu, who wrote: “It’s a 1913 Enfield Tourer. Better known for their munitions and motorcycles, the Enfield company also turned out a wide range of automobiles between 1906-1915, nearly all of them powered by side-valve four-cylinder engines. The Enfield Company struggled and was taken over by Alldays in 1908, who then marketed the more expensive versions of their own cars under the Enfield brand name.” Spot on, João and this means that you now join the ranks of our distinguished jurymembers. Well done! The Australian owner of the Enfield, Michael McLeary, informs us that the Enfield name was fairly common in Adelaide during the 1910’s where a fleet of Enfield delivery vans were used by what was then a major retailer in Adelaide. His plans are to restore the car, however although he has started on it, the main focus on the first year is on research (the cars earlier history, the car itself, and other owners of a similar car) and collecting any available missing parts. And this is where you may be able to help Michael: See his advert!
