About Quiz 248: 1909 New-Pick
These two gentlemen in their racer must have caused a few raised eyebrows. Very, very few even dared to mail us a guess as to what the identity of this car could be. In an old Dutch Magazine we found
this advert of the “New-Pick” Racer, so maybe it’s no coincidence that our winner comes from Holland too. The answer of Mr. Stol says it all: “It’s a Pick. Jack Pick built his first car in 1898 and afterwards he built cars under the name New Pick Motor Co. One model was a conventional 4 cyl. shaft drive car with 2 forward speeds, top being direct drive. In 1910 the New Pick racer was advertised to be capable 50mph. In ´23 a sporting two-seater was introduced which at 40mph would only turn a 1000revs and could do a 60mph. After closing down Pick turned to the greengrocery business.” Congratulations on your first win, Mr. Stol. The T-shirt will be on its way.
