About Quiz # 254: Aurea

Several answers came in, ranging from the French Sénéchal to Chenard et Walcker and from the Italian makes Ceirano and OM . Close, but not correct. Our quiz car is an Aurea made in Turin 1920-1933. It was correctly identified by Jak Guyomar, who wrote: “Knock on hub caps are surely Italian style. I will have a stab at Aurea, series 500 or 600. Maybe an S type that was raced at Monza but though reliable didn't do much in their class. One of these factory cars apparently exists in Sicily. There are reputedly a couple of survivors in Australia. One was raced by a Parramatta mechanic at Warwick Farm.” Well done, Jak, the T-shirt is yours! No bonus points though for identifying the driver, which would have been very hard, we admit. It was Dutch racing driver Hans Herkuleijns, who was also quite successful driving the MG Q-Type and MG K3. (photo courtesy Conam / Bas de Voogd)
