About Quiz # 260: 1915 F.R.P. Tourer

A tough cookie, last weeks quiz car. No HCS (Harry Clayton Stutz); no Wills Sainte Claire (Childe Harold Wills) nor a Hupmobile by Robert Craig Hupp. The distinctive radiator you see here belongs to a 1915 F.R.P. Tourer built by Finley Robertson Porter, who earlier worked for Mercer, where he designed the legendary T-head engine that went into the 35-R Raceabout. Only a handful of F.R.P.’s have been produced (estimates vary from 3 to 12) and our quiz car was long rumored to be the only one in existence. However, according to jury member Kit Foster there’s a second survivor, although not complete and with some modifications. After World War I the F.R.P was renamed the Porter and production continued for a few more years. Apart from jury members David Green, Peter Ransom and of course Kit Foster, two entrants, David Brownell and Chris Paulsen, had all our questions correct. That made our decision very difficult but in the end we decided to award the T-shirt to Chris Paulsen as he was more specific in his answer. Congratulations Chris! See you all next week!
