Quiz ArchiveAbout Quiz # 272: 1938 Adler 2.5 liter by Gläser Streamlining in the 1930s did produce several look-a-likes. So it came as no surprise that some of you mentioned the Chrysler Airflow in answer to our quiz. No so, in fact our quiz car was the German Adler 2.5 ltr. “Autobahn” made in 1938 with a very pretty body by Gläser. However, we must add that several of you had doubts about this Gläser body and suggested it is probably a replica. Also it is also very hard to distinguish between the bodies made by Buhne and by Gläser, see the ‘read more’ for the remarks by Heinzgerd Schott. Although many entrants mentioned both Adler and Gläser, only three had all our five questions correct: Holger Kempf, Luk Martens and Michael Wirthgen. From these three we choose Holger Kempf’s answer as most informative (see Read More). Congratulations Holger on your second win! See you all next week with a new quiz. The answer from Holger Kempf: “The one -off is a Adler 2,5 L Autobahn made in 1938 by Gläser. Between 1937 and 1940 5295 were made. Normal Bodies by Ambi Budd ( 4 door limousine), Buhne ( 2,5 L Sport ) and Karmann ( 2 and 4 Cabrio ) The design was from Karl Jeschke who came from Steyr (Steyr 50 = Baby).” Heinzgerd Schott wrote: “The text of the Quiz #272 (ADLER 2,5 Liter Sport-Coupe) says: This coupé is the only one of its kind. Buhne from Berlin offered a Coupe and a Roadster, but Gläser in Dresden styled a nearly identic Coupe. So it is not the only one of its kind. Fotos are scanned from the ADLER-„Bible“: ADLER Automobile 1900 – 1945 by Werner Oswald. The information on the ADLER Autobahn by Wikipedia is not correct in all details. As far as I know not a single piece of the 2,5 Liter SportCoupes has survived. Those offered now are recreations, very authentic, but recreations.“ Friday, 16 April 2010

The Gläser has a swage line in the front fender - the Buhne had a smooth fender - as the Quiz car. So dare I say it is a Buhne replica ?
