About Quiz # 277 'Round-the-World' Model T

Model_T_Regter_300You are looking at the result of two years of building and finetuning of a Model T engine. Dirk Regter from Holland is a third generation model T man. His grandfather already had a bus service to Amsterdam in the mid teens of the last century. Dirk himself is carrying the flag and did Peking-Paris with his Model T and now is preparing for a still greater challenge!  In 2012 he and his wife will take off for a two year 55,000 (!!!) mile trip around the world. For that purpose of climbing steep and long mountainroads, he added compression, dual exhaust, pressurised oil feeding, cooling and filtering. Nothing has changed on the carburettor and on the coilbox ignition neither. Except... for the the two oil filler caps one on the top and one mounted on the left. David found that the coilboxes would literally melt(!) in long distance desert drives. So he built in a computer cooling fan taking in air from the left and blowing out from the top! As said, preparing the engine took two year and is being run in now. We will report about the chassis adaptations later on. But all technique aside, Dirk and his wife are not only travelling for personal pleasure alone. They work on getting charity sponsors for every single mile of the trip in favour of the organisation  Save the Children
back to the Quiz! Correct in naming Model T was everybody. Competitors that at least named several additions correct are  Mark Walker, Ced Pearce, Michael Rose, Warren Henderson. Nobody guessed right about the ignition box of course, but two time earlier winner Ced Pearce (click) was the only one being right that the engine is meant for a long distance project. Welcome to the jury Ced!

About Quiz # 277 'Round-the-World' Model T Great quiz, I would very highly recommend the addition of Rocky Mountain brakes and Kevlar bands (which I have installed on my own 1917 Model T) and a flat tube radiator. I would also like to see some more information about sponsoring cost per mile, so your readers could help. Lastly what body type is Dirk planning on using?
Thank you, Warren
