About Quiz # 285: 1905/1906 Demeester

1906-demeester-1We found our quiz car in a Dutch magazine dating from 1906. But despite its Dutch or Flemish sounding name it was a French made Demeester. Indeed a very obscure automobile as only our jury member Fried Stol came up with the answer. His answer tells all we wanted to know: “DEMEESTER 1905/6 – 1914. The company was founded by Leon Demeester and Dominique Lamberjack (later a Bugatti dealer in Paris) at Courbevoie en Seine near Paris and was close related to the Sinpar cars (sins pareil, which means without equal). Voiturettes were equipped with 358cc De Dion singles, four cyl 1104cc 8hp and 1303cc 10hp power units in 1907. By 1912 also 12hp and 16hp four cyl models were sold. Demeesters were entered in voiturette races in the period 1908 to 1909 e.g. in Dieppe. Demeesters in the Coupe des Voiturettes used an ohv Sultan four cyl. engine.” Thanks Fried! Now we have only one question left… are there any surviving Demeesters?

Hi,

The photo in this article looks very much like a 'desaturated' photo of the Demeester owned by Colin Trevelyan, Millennium Museum, Te Awanga, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Regards

I am a regular subscriber of The Automobile since about 8 years. I remember reading about two Demeester's, one had its monogram missing and someone else had bought one and probably reunited the two. There it was mentioned that something like 4 or 5 cars exist, probably the two mentioned below are included.

The Demeester in Torino is said to be a 8hp model of 1906. A four cylinder model of 1907 was advertised in 1998 by someone in New Zealand (Hans Compter?). Its twoseater body looks very similar to the Italian survivor. There seems to be a Demeester in Australia today and perhaps it is the 1907 car.

my 1971 Georgano states tyhere is one in
IL MUSEO NAZIONALE DELL'AUTOMOBILE
"CARLO BISCARETTI DI RUFFIA" in Turin.
When I checked it's website it still
lists a Demeester in their inventory:
