About Quiz # 287: 1910 Westcott Model F Tourer.

That was a fun one. Hardly anything to see from the remains of the car as found by Tom Laferriere. Still lots of partly good answers came in. This of course based on the wealth of hints we gave. Yet, you should know us by now, and our hints can be terribly deceiving. The 1911 Indy film helped to decide which make of car was involved - Westcott- but not which year we were looking for. Four people were correct in naming the correct make: Rob Stewart, Michael Snyder and jurymember Mark Dawber and Reg Harris. Surprisingly three other came up with Cole which apparently shows some parallel with the quiz car. About the exact year of the car we only had hear-say so far. The widow of the late owner remembered that the car - resting there for 40 years already - is a 1910 model. However two highly knowledgeable competitors have their sources and came up with this : "Your clues and the ten spoke front wheels were enough to know that it is a 1910 Westcott Model F, 40hp, 4 cylinders with 112” wheelbase." Congratulations Robb Stewart (now jurymember), but our Congratulations also go to Michael Snyder, as we consider his answer equally good: "The manufacture in question is Westcott. Started by Burton J Westcott. What is left of the car appears to be a 1910 touring. The wheels in the photo appear to be front wheels and are ten spoke. The 1910 Westcott had ten spoke fronts and twelve spoke rears. After 1910 they had twelve spoke all around. The two break levers(?) appear to have been mounted to the outside of the body. The fenders are not curved, and do not appear to have bills on the front." (special thanks to
Tom Laferriere)
