About Quiz # 299 (1917 Glide Six Sport Torpedo)

Was the wheather too good? Were the hints too few? Was the sporty bodywork so deceiving that many gave up and not even tried? Again no winners this time. Only two jurymembers proved their knowledge with claiming Glide Six for this remarkable tourer. The advert appeared in the February 6, 1919 edition of De Auto in Holland. There must have been more of this style of body as the dealer "Cadillac House" from Amsterdam proclaims that these special Sport Torpedo's were ready available. Not sure if this body came from the US or elsewhere. The style is certainly not typical for Holland in that time (who knows more?) . Glide was produced by the Bartholomew Co., Peoria, Illinois, USA and was active as from 1901/2 until 1920. According to Georgano they had Rutenberger engines and among the bodystyles was a 4 seater Roadster. Is this what we see? Not sure. Anyway João Pedro Gazineu from Brazil and Fried Stol from Holland (both jury) came up witht the next answers: João: " It's a 1917 American built Glide with a Dutch body by CeHa. C-H stands for Cadillac House." Fried Stol says:"1917 Glide Light Six 40. The Glide Automobile Co was founded by John B. Bartholomew. In 1902 he started making cars. A total of seven models. The first car was a 6 hp (4.5 kW) single-cylinder tiller-steered runabout. In 1905 they introduced a 14hp 2-cylinder engine and in 1906 a 36hp 4-cylinder. In 1907 they added a 50/60hp 6-cylinder Model H. The Model H was made for only two years, from 1909-1915 the cars featured a 4-cylinder, 45 hp (34 kW). In 1916 the new Model 6-40 offered a smaller 40 hp (30 kW) 6 cyl. engine than the Model H. Coachwork by Fasco?" Next week another chance !
