About Quiz # 302: Donald Duck Saloon?

whatisit_302_300This one seemed too easy! Too many clues maybe? Anyway, we had a massive response with all competitors correct - except five - in naming the marque Aston-Martin.
Of course the name is just the entry ticket for this quiz. And most competitors came up with whatever is to be found regarding this odd looking late thirties saloon. We understand that the AM personnel nicknamed the car Donald Duck saloon, which is funny as we have seen Donald Duck only with his "313" Roadster with dickey seat. Probably the most comprehensive description is from the book "Aston-Martin 1913-1947" by Inman Hunter, which was quoted by at least three competitors. Basic facts: the 2 liter saloon with chassis #J6/703/LS was Earls Court showcar in 1936. In 1938 this car's bodywork  was stripped and replaced by a totally different body. It was NOT the Atom and not a prototype of the Atom. Tim McKibbin, Ivar Dortans, Paul Linster, John Robins, Hugh Stiles, John Jarrett, Piet Kooij,  Alan McGuinness had all or many of the basics correct. Between those there were some small mistakes, also a few responses far much longer than 100 words and we use that if we have too many equals.  Hugh Stiles, John Jarrett and Alan McGuinnes survived. To find more and more words is easy by using books and internet. For that reason in the end we decided to reward the ultra compact & correct answer by Alan McGuinnes was best: "1936 2 liter 15/98 Aston Martin Saloon; in 1938 converted into works tester ‘Donald Duck'."  Congratulations !
