About Quiz # 317: 1906 Tarrant

1906-tarrant-stamp-1The very first answer to our quiz came in from Australia only moments after it was published. Not really a surprise as several of the veteran car clubs in Australia have incorporated an image of a Tarrant (not this one) in their logos. Jury member Peter Ransom wrote: "There were several models and the car depicted on the stamp issued in 1984 is the only survivor. It is a 14-16hp model with a 3.5 litre 4-cylinder engine, probably amongst the last of Tarrant's production. This Tarrant is well-known in Australia, owned since 2002 by the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and displayed in their premises." After that first response came a flood of correct answers, almost all from Australia, but only a few not from down under, among them very informative ones from Kaspars Dortãns , Fritz Hegemann and Hugh Stiles but in the end we selected as winner Saulius Venclovas from Lithuania, who wrote: "It is a 1906 Tarrant, built by the Tarrant Automobile & Engineering Co. Car was built by two Melbourne men, Harley Tarrant and Howard Lewis". Saulius even included a photo (click main pic) from the Polish book "Dzieje samochodu" Congratulations Saulius! More info about the Tarrant can be found on the website of the Museum Victoria. See read More for all quiz entrants with the correct answers.
