Possibly our hints were a bit thin, but none of you was able to recognise the symphatetic car broker Gavin McGuire.  Which is funny, because except for the glasses and the photo being B&W the man has not changed a bit since he was 18. Most of you had considerably less problems with pointing out various details of the car. Beforehand we were seeking advise form MG VA expert Bas de Voogd. And he gave us the following information. He explains that formally never VA's were sold but Oneandahalf Litre MG's. This car in particular officially was named a Folding Head Foursone, generally known as Tickford Coupé by Salmons. As they started life as a saloon chassis, the chassisnumber will always be followed by an S. It was the third model option after Saloon and Tourer. Regarding the options visible on Gavin's car:  For a mere £5 extra a Smith Jackall system was fitted, but this was a standard option on the first series. The horns were named Two-tone Mellotone and did cost 6 pound, 10 shilling extra. With respect to the two different looking headlights. During the black out years you could fit masks to both headlights but some people simply removed the bulb from the off side headlight sand fitted a mask to the nearside only. After the war people had forgotten where they had stored the beautifull headlight MG badge or just diod not refit... Exact dating of this car is practically impossible. Early Tickford's are a bit more narrow than later ones.
