About Quiz # 345: 1939 Bugatti 57C Van Vooren Coupe

Well, well, well, this was indeed an easy one. Massive response and most of those good or nearly good. Sorry for the chaps who sent in with Atalante, Atlantic, or Galibier. The car may look like an Atalante, but it is not. The louvres , 'B-posts', and especially the tail with the exquisite inside bending curves are unique for this Van Vooren Coupe. The car is  the product of a discussion between Mr. Chaussivert and the factory in Molsheim. He wanted an Atalante but different and for this purpose he ordered a type 57C chassis, sent it to Van Vooren and had a Coupe built to his own wishes. However he was not happy with the result and told Bugatti he didn't want the car after all. They did take it back on the conditon that he would order another 57C chassis and so he did. This second car differed in many details from the first, is the one you are looking at. By the way the car is no longer in the Mullin Autmotive Museum. It is back in Europe and recently made a 'pilgrimage' to Molsheim, where these photos were made. The car has an incredible low recorded 'mileage' of a bit over 12,000 km and is inside and out in its original livery.  In 2010 it won third prize at Pebble Beach in the pre-war preservation class.
Correct with at least Make, Year, Type, and Coachbuilder and without mistakes came in from Gerry Barrett, Alex, Alan Spencer, Anton van Luijk, Philip Klopper, Marc Fellman (jury), Barrie Down,  J. Boers, Chritian Fritz, Peter Brouwer, John Elema, and Brent Castle. After a toss Mr. J. Boers came out as the winner. Congratulations, Mr. J!
