This is it ! (about # 110)

A 1938 Stoewer Greif with Horch convertible coachwork.... This one being a ultra rare duck. Despite the fact You will not find it at the website of the Stoewer Museum. You will not find it at the online Horch Museum. It is not completely known how many (or better how few) were built by Horch. New Zealand's rare car finder/restorer Hans Compter who provided the photo also reports:"Of all different kinds of Greif's and Greif Junior - including the Greif V8-s - an overall total of 4000 was built. In the mid thirties Stoewer like others had financial problems and there even were negotiations to produce a few hundred Eiffel coachworks for Ford. Luckily the aircooled 4 cylinder pre-Volkswagen Greif was ---> .....a succes leading to the new problem of a too small production capacity. Horch was located in Zwickau (ed. where later the plastic 'Trabi's'were built) what is not far from Stoewer in Stettin. In fact there was more cooperation between both firms in the years '38-'40. A by Horch developed light military vehicle was built with both Horch and Stoewer engines." Thanks for the lecture you Hans !
Back to the competition # 110. Both Radu Comsa (Romania) and Eduard Hattuma(Holland) came up with coachbuilder Horch. Applause for that! Unfortunately neither one of them came up with Stoewer. (they named Wanderer and DKW) So this time no winners as we find naming the right Make is a minimal requirement to win our Competition. See you all next Saturday!

discussion by editor: In the Competition text we wrote that # 110 is not an Eastblock product. At the moment of producing the quiz we wanted to refer/hint to the fact that the Greif originally was a Tatra design that was licenced to Stoewer. Afterwards I dound out that Horch factory in Zwickau in fact is East Germany. So unwillingly we gave you poor information. At the same time you can say that before the war the undivided Germany was no part of eastern Europe. Etc., etc. Now what can you learn from all this? Trust nothing but your own compass and not the one of the quizmaker!
