Quiz ArchiveWhat is it? # 101 (UPDATE: Locomobile in Buffalo...) UPDATE: No winners this week. we gave you next to no clues as we were convinced that the chassis, wheels and general set-up would at least evoke a loud LOCOMOBILE !!! Just like we received from jurymember Bob Swanson (NOTE, he also found the location:Lafayette Square , Buffalo (clic)(andrle.com). In stead of that we only received "1907 Winton" and a few competitors claiming Thomas Flyer. This leaves the question unanswered what the exact year & type of the car is . According to Bob we only have two options based on the wheelbase sizes we gave and the year (also uncertain): "...in 1905 that would have been a Model H or F , 30/35 HP or 40/45 HP " Maybe the final answer will come later, now that you know where to look... To stimulate your fantasy take a look at the famous 1906 VanderBilt racer: VanderBilt Cup racer (Bilavefur.com)(photo collection David Greenlees) EARLIER TEXT: It is a long wheelbase car. It looks like a racing car and maybe it once was, but not any more. In fact it is a Garage Service car. Four snow chains mounted. So it is ready to fly out when blizzards have blocked the roads or gotten cars into trouble otherwise. So far the fun part. Now let's be serious. According to sender this should be either a 1905/07 106" wheelbase or the 1905 110" wheelbase. As we don't have the evidence which one it is, the prize will go to the competitor producint the best arguments for either theory. But first check the details in this enlargement (click). Please send your answer - with # 101 in the subject line - to \n This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. And oh yes, don't forget to mention the make of car when you want to win PreWarCar T-shirt # 101. And if you really want to make the difference tell us the location of the monument in the park (clic) (this part will not bring you victory though)...... Friday, 27 February 2004
