Quiz ArchiveWhat is it? # 114 ( UPDATE: 1930 Oakland ) UPDATE: This one was more like it. No less than 5 competitors came up with the right make: Oakland! Being produced in Pontiac. We gave a hint with 'all american sound'. Relating with the new V8 by General Motors. So that was settled. The year was not very easy and we can only have deep respect for the competitors that know to differentiate between a 1929 (six cylinder) and the 1930 and 1931 Oakland V8. More 'body' to radiator & hood giving more length. Radu Comsa (Ro), Don Edwards and John Iacino (boths US) all three had 1930 Oakland V8.... So now into the fineprint!!! About the type wrote the sender of photo plus information Hans Compter, the full name of the car is: 1930 Oakland Series 101 (V8) five passenger - 4-door Custom Sedan by Fisher Only Don Edwards & Radu Comsa both came up with the proper ingredients including even 'Custom' Sedan, being the most luxurious version. Something that according to earlier owner Hans Compter one only can be concluded from outside based on the 'side kick plates'. There were some last extremely small difference between the two gentleman. Too small to establish a proper decision to drop either one of them. So we decided by great exception to appoint two winners. Congratulations to Radu! And congratulations to Don, who 'en passant' also became Jury member due to a total of three wins! Roger Rentel adds: “I learned to drive on a 1930 Oakland that looked exactly like this. The only difference was that it didn't have the stainless steel kick plates above the running board. We lived on a farm east of Sioux City, IA. and my father bought this car in 1940 from a neighbor for $50.00. It was a V-8 and the roads we lived on were not gravelled. So, when it rained or in the spring when the snow melted and the frost went out of the ground, it was a muddy mess. Dad would put chains on that old power house and it could bury itself to the rear axle in second gear if it couldn't get up the hill or in our lane.” EARLIER TEXT: It is a four door closed car with an all American sound. Okay, that is one of many, but take care..... The design may be bland, the concept was quite special when this Series came to the market. The car was produced in a city with a name of a very different car. Most varieties of the rich palet of bodystyles were produced by the factory itself. Not this one which was made by Fisher.... Well, so far our job, the rest is up to you. 1.Make. 2. Year. 3.Type 4.Model. We will judge taking into account this order.
