What is it ? # 119 (UPDATE 1931-1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II)

Now you may think that finding the right answer is the hardest part. It is not. Again it took several experts to find out what exactly the right answer was. That is also the reason that it took longer (as usual) to find out who is the one and only winner. We started off with a Rolls-Royce owners manual. Easy for us! At the first page it had printed October 1931. Again easy for us. Wrong. The Rolls-Royce manuals did not always show what they should show.... Sometimes they showed older chassis then the owners just had bought. It took RR-expert Andre Blaize and Hans Compter several days to find out that this particular chassis could have been made from late 1931 untill early 1933... Next issue. The Type was easy. It was printed on the same page. Phantom II 40-50 HP. The problem was that based on this we still could not find a winner. So we had to take into account the extra reserve-question. The most common body? Which series coachwork was built in the highest number? Again a lot of e-mails were needed to find out exactly... Anyway, of the 17 competitors who guessed Roll-Royce, eight also had the type right: Phantom II ! The year was a bit harder: Three of you had a year or year-range that fitted the above mentioned 1931-1933.... So then the reserve question: the most common body... nobody mentioned the official "Standardised Touring Saloon" but several of you wrote Saloon and/or coachbuilder Barker. Adding up all this we landed with the earlier winning team Booij/de Voogd who said (in short): Rolls Royce, 1931, Phantom II, Saloon by Barker. Congratulations!

See you all after holidays. Train your memory, study your books. The next series of 'What is it?' will proove to be even harder!

Most probably you never saw it in this condition or from this perspective. When you click the photo the picture will be enlarged. So please tell us what is the Make(1) of this car. What is the Type(2)? And which was the most common coachwork (3) that was mounted on this chassis? And if possible to say, what is the year? (4) Rules:
