Quiz ArchiveWhat is it? # 124 ( UPDATE II & I: Ruston-Hornsby 1923) Update II: Oops, two Editor Mistakes! in the competiotion text 1. In the competiton text we mentioned that # 124 was from the last production year. Wrong! The car is 1923 and the last production year was 1924. Second mistake: we mentioned 'high-end' model referring to one of the cars. Wrong again!! There was a third even bigger RH model... However both issues do not change the end result of # 124. Please remember for future occasions, in the end it's what the car IS, not what we write about it. JB Update: It is not a Bean as a handfull of you were thinking. The radiator was playing you tricks! However not to everybody, as no less then 5 competitors came up with the right make of car: Ruston-Hornsby. We took the photos from a 1923 brochure, so both cars could be of that year. Hans Compter came up with one decisive detail. "1923 for the economy model A1 with 6 stud 815 x 120 Michelin disc wheels. Those wheels were only listed in that year and for that type A1 (15hp, Treasury rating 15.9hp) The virtually identical type B1 of 1923/24 had the artillery steel wheels and was listed by the maker as a 16hp." The information is correct, yet the brochure is using less words. It is the 'Fifteen' and the 'Sixteen'. Adding up everything winner again this time is Hans Compter. Congratulations! Now he didn't know either, but you could have found this brochure (see att.) when you had checked lot No. 213 under Cheffins' Auction banner that was only inches away from Quiz # 124... http://www.cheffins.co.uk/version2/Vintage/carsmotorcycles/catalogues/2004/0 41002cars/details.asp?id=210 (picture source: the Automobilia section of of Cheffins' 2 October auction ; click . EARLIER TEXT: It is a brochure illustration showing a RH-drive. This manufacturer was active from agricultural machinery 'up to' aero engines. Showing here is the high-end model of the last production year. When clicking the photo you will see the more economical model . Nevertheless that is a "Five seater body with outside hood and flexible side-curtains fitted with double wind-screen, sliding front seat (!) and upholstered in real leather. Painted (edit.: as all cars of this make): Buff, Royal Blue, Purple or Grey." Now the winner may be able to tell: 1. the Make 2. the Year 3. the Type of both cars shown.
