What is it? # 133 (Update: 1940 Mercury 2 door Sedan)

Without the help of honourable jurymembers Don Edwards & Kit Foster, we never could have identified a winner. You're just too close to each other. Special thanks to both gentleman! So what about this easy # 133.... Most of you were right with the make of car being: Mercury. Most of you were right in the (model) year: 1940 (despite the typo in the update e-mail). Many of you were right in the Type about which one can say a few things. Yes, it is a 2 door Sedan, but no it is not a 'Tudor' as that is a Ford and not a Mercury word. Further possible additions about the type: Mercury 8, Series 09A, Model 70, WB 116" . Now extra question number four was the one that did make the difference. Best visible extra were the fender skirts. Followed by the white wall tire, windshield sunvisor, bodymounted passenger side mirror. We didn't count all those, because the photo was far from super. But interesting was that some of you said that the skirts were aftermarket while others said they were a factory option... We received elaborate supporting evidence from Kit Foster and Don Edwards. The last one wrote: "...my info is from "The Classy Ford V-8", covering Ford, 32 to 53, Mercury, 39 to 42. Motorbooks International, Osceola, Wisc. On page 162, showing 40 Merc., for accessories they refer to page 150. Page 150 lists Ford Motor Company accessories for the era in question. Included in the listing are fender shields (skirts)." Based on his answers on Questions 1, 2 and 3 plus him claiming "Factory Fender Skirts" made us decide Mike Turner to be the winner of # 133. Congratulations Mike ! (photo Keith Kuehn) EARLIER TEXT: It's a modern car. Every one of you should be able to identify this one effortless... (to be honest your editor was completely wrong...). No brass era or horseless carriage material. It is a plain, straightforward everyday family car. This it the opportunity to show that your basic knowledge is up to standards. (may we take advantage of the occasion to explain that also relatively common cars are welcome for a free Pop-Up advert ) . We don't want to tell you a lot more, don't want to hint a lot. One thing, click the image for a zoom-in and be sure to give the utmost attention to detail. As usual it is not as easy as it seems... One new rule: when answering to the questions 1. Make 2. Year 3. Type. 4. any accesoires? ...from now on competitors must answer in the same way. That is to say, answer with a neat 1,2,3, 4 row of answers. It's just taking too much time to find all the answers hidden in your e-mails... ;-)
