What is it? # 69 (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The subscript of the photo postcard reads: "Circuit de la Seine Inférieure, 2 Juillet (July) 1907. Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. Edmond sur voiture Renault. "When interested to read more about the mudguards go to the AtlasF1 Nostalgia Forum where I left a question about the issue. Bottomline is that most people think that the mudguards were only in use during transport or testing, but there are exceptions. As most competitors were quite accurate in naming the car, we have decided this week's prize is going to the one (!) competitor (Robert Rozeman; congratulations!) who came up with the right name of the driver: Edmond. With the 1907 Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. he dropped out or didn't start due to an illness... Hope to see you all back next Saturday alive and healthy. Drive carefully. (click for enlarged detail, photo collection Bob Swanson) EARLIER TEXT: It s a truly great car. Maybe a bit too easy for a true Whatisit, the weekend nightmare of a every week growing number of old car specialists. Maybe -because it is not the hardest one- it will make more people think about it. At the same time we thought it a good idea to let you all relax a bit. The puzzles have been far from easy lately. Now listen careful to our advise: with just a little knowledge, two teaspoons of intelligence (what is one more than we have ;-) and the help of a good searchengine you know far more than 9 out of 10 specialists. So let's see what will come from this one. In order to win the infamous PreWarCar T-shirt send your answer (make, type, year, driver and what's more) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
