What is it ? # 70 (UPDATE: Ford of course !!!)

It is a Ford of course! What other carmake could we have taken in the weekend before Ford's 100 th birthday? In fact this is the Ford Express, as advertised in Time magazine , 31 July 1931 : "...designed primarily for freight, mail and express...../... conform the specifications of the famous Model 5 AT Ford Transport. It's greatest distinguishing feature is that it is nequiped with only one motor .... (now, here it comes>>>) a Hispano-Suiza 715-H.P.(American rating at 2000 r.p.m.) water cooled engine. The only competitor who mentioned this combination of two manufacturers was Swiss ('Suiza') correspondent Fredi Vollenweider. Congratulations! (click photo to see nose detail; collection Hans Horwitz) "It's a full size aerotruck with four blade front drive." Well done so far. But now the hard part. What on earth it has to do with motor cars? Well... eh... it's the manufacturers. They make that it is a very common and a very special plane at the same time. Unless you know this express transporter both aspects will surprise. A few more hints. It is not from the USSR or China. It is a US product, well...eh sort of and the year is 1931. Now to win the newest issue of the PreWarCar T-shirt tell us a bit more about it. Send your answer before Monday 16 June next to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
