Quiz ArchiveWhat is it? # 77 (UPDATE) UPDATE:That was a very tricky one! Despite the French looks, the car in fact is a 1912 specimen from the manufacturer that started building cars in Glasgow in 1897: Arrol Johnston.
The only competitor who had the make of car right was jury member Carleton Hughes who also added:
"...the car is a Arrol-Johnson 15.9 hp tourer
from 1912-1913. Several things stand out when viewing the car in depth, the front wheel Perrot type brakes that
their rival Argyll introduced in 1910, the Sankey pressed steel wheels, the distinctive circular
vent in the hood plus the contour of the top radiator tank."
As if once he was an Arrol Johnston dealer... well done Carleton!
EARLIER TEXT: Hippopotamus nose, so that must be French. Rearpositioned radiator, so no Dion-Bouton. Yes - no doubt about it - easy as chicken, this is the archetypical Billancourt face, or what? As almost every weekend that's up to you! Tell us the make, the year and type of car. In that order we will judge the answers to point out the world wide one winner of the PreWarCar T-shirt nr.77.
