What is it ? # 86 ( FIAT ! )

This was the London-Brighton weekend so we decided to take one of those very early cars. Though this is a familiar make we have strong doubts if any of these turned up at the start. Also we didn't see a lot of competitors who felt enough ground under their feet to do an decent guess. So we ended up with one Competitor and one Jurymember (Lars of course ;-) with the right make of car: FIAT! a 1899-1900 model. Congratulations Alboino Deulus ! See you all next Saturday. (collection Hans van Ingen) EARLIER TEXT: It is a European car which is eligible for tomorrow's London-Brighton Veteran Car Run. Now you may think: "What the heck, PreWarCar promised an easy one!" Our answer consists of a few hints: it is a type 3,5 HP (4,2 Cv). It has a horizontal 2 cylinder engine which will rev up to a maximum of 400 per minute... It has a conical friction and rear wheel chaindrive with three speed transmission. The footbreak will work on the halfshaft, the handbreak on the rearwheels. Overall weight 680 kilos. Petrol consumption 8 L in 100 km. All we want to hear from you is the year of this car. And the make of course.
