Quiz ArchiveWhat is it? # 89 (SEE CORRECTION) (XTRA-UPDATE) (UPDATE: 1932 Austin 7 Military by Mulliner) XTRA PDATE by jurymember Mike Tebbett: "...the Mulliner Company that built the bodies on Austin Sevens, and some Twelves and Twenties, were nothing to do with the other Mulliner companies like H.J.Mulliner. This Mulliner was based at a factory in Birmingham, and were not linked to the other Mulliners at all. They went on to build bodies on Alvis and Daimler in the thirties, then after the war the 'razor edge' Mayflowers and Renowns for Triumph. They were then bought out completely by Standard-Triumph and the factory was used for TR3 and I think TR4 production." UPDATE: About everybody was right about the basics. Though some of you gambled on Dixi and Rosengart, which is almost right, this is an Austin. The type '7' in that case is not hard to come up with. But that is not enough, this is the purpose built 'Military' scout car. But only few really took the time to dig their bookshelves or the Web to come up with honourable coachbuilder Mulliner to produce this..., this er... jeep. Only three of you were right in that...! And then came the final killer: the year... Production was from 1929 up to 1932. This is one of the second series. (CORRECTED >>>The original UK registration reads MV 5313 of 20 July 1932 <<<) So 1932... Right again Paul Linster! I think we have a new jury member with 3 victories! Congratulations Paul! (photo Tjitte de Jong; click to enlarge) EARLIER TEXT: The mother of all wartime Willys, Nekafs, Minervas and Hummers or just sort of a barnbuilt chickenderby special? Or ...er...? It's not that hard but you'll need your fantasy and memory to sort it out. But maybe we are wrong and is this the easiest one of the year... we can't give you a lot of hints this time. Just coem up with the the Make, the Type (also the coachbuilder) and the Year. The closest to brilliant answer will win the PreWarCar T-shirt.
