Whatisit? # 64 (UPDATE: Packard!)

Contrary to our expectations # 64 was too easy... ;-) . No less than SIX (!) of you came up with the right name: Packard. Obviously the 1999 centennial hint was a give-away. In fact it is the 1931 (modelyear 1932) prototype V 12 FrontWheelDrive. The body is a prototype designed by a Mr. Cornelius van Ranst and had a look-a-like Cord L-29 body. To be competitive with the Cord or maybe to try out the car without too many onlookers? Who can tell for sure? Due to too much complexity of the gearchange Packard left out the FWD-idea in the V 12 production cars that were introduced in January 1932. Although we had several answers in with all details good, this weeks prize again is for Lars-Göran Lindgren from Sweden! He was the only one who came in before Monday and that aside also knew about the Cord-connection of designer van Ranst. Congratulations Lars-Göran.(photo by Jose A. Gomez). EARLIER TEXT: This is dangerous material. Don't trust your intuitive guess with this one, but THINK. Did we ever offer you the easy way out? No, never. So think about the hard way out... Either you just know this one (for instance because you are or know the owner) OR you are the crack of cracks. This photo was taken in 1999 during an important centennial celebration. Study the enlargement and then reconsider. Anyway, send your reponse to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Please ad # 64 to the subjectline of your mail and send it before Monday 5 May
