More info: The Darracq V8 took the land speed record in December 1905, and won the Golden Crown at Daytona 1906. Bought from the factory by the Guinness heir, Algenon Lee-Guinness raced the car throughout Europe from 1906 to 1909 when it cracked a piston at Saltburn Sands. The engine and car have been painstakingly rebuilt over many years, and the engine was run for the first time in 97 years in March 2006. It has been run several times since, and driven a short distance. This video records those events. See pictures and read the story at
