Brown is the new red

Brown is the new red
There was a time, it was the end of the 1980s, when Italian cars needed to be red. When you had something exotic in your garage and needed quick money, you gave it a fast paint job in shiny Ferrari-red and you were able to shift it for silly money. Until the bubble lasted, that was. Today, we appear to be in a bubble of another kind. But fortunately it’s not just red what we see. Gooding and Company is bringing over a great number of Italian stallions to their Amelia Island sale this Friday.

What struck us is a pair of golden brown Ferraris: this matching-numbers 365 GT 2+2 in Oro Nasrullah and especially this 23,000 miles from new Dino 246 GTS in Nocciola Mettalizzato. Does it get any better? Oh yes. There’s an unrestored Lambo Jarama with just 5,200 miles on its clock in a truly fantastic colour scheme of Sable brown with a full tan leather interior. Squareness at its prettiest. Oh, this Maserati Mistral needs a full restoration job but is all complete and original. Its colour could pass for dark red, but since you need a paint job anyway, why not go for a nice shade of brown instead?
