The Magazine

Tomorrow, May 5th, the Dutch celebrate the end of World War II and the
liberation of their country by the allied forces. It's a day-off for everyone and throughout the country many festivals are held. This drawing clearly shows
the heartfelt welcome the Dutch gave their liberators. It was made by Margje Toonder, a Dutch writer who wrote and illustrated two books about the occupation, telling of the hardships the Dutch experienced during those years. As an aside, she was no stranger to literature, as she was sister-in-law to
Marten Toonder, perhaps the most distinguished Dutch author of comics.
