Mike the Bike or the sound of oil on canvas.

mike-hailwood-morssink-1

A carpainter from Holland has been a Mike Hailwood fan as long as he can remember. Recently he commissioned an oil on canvas by artist Herman Morssink. He based the 100 by 160 cm painting on press photos made of Mike Hailwood and his Honda 350 six, during the  1967 GP at the Sachsen Ring, in former East-Germany.
Upon delivery of the painting another chap dropped in. He had been living near the the Assen TT circuit most of his life and at seeing Mike cornering sharp on canvas, he got vivid aural flash-backs of  the screaming howl of the Honda coming through 'De Strubben'. We were not able to find the exact sound, but this lighter 250/6...  comes pleasant close. (painting by Herman Morssink)
