postwar-parking-amsterdam-1
Why is it that whenever you go to the office on a Monday morning, everybody else also decided to take the car? It makes it impossible to find a parking spot. A little comfort might be that it has always been like that, at least when we look at this parking somewhere in Amsterdam (can you ID more than 10 other cars?). We think the picture was taken around 1947-1948; most automobiles are still pre-war, but there’s a 1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster circling around for an empty spot.  The owner of the pre-war Opel Kadett is lucky with parking, but why is it that some people always need two places?

What a great picture with the 3 women who maybe just left their Citroen on the sidewalk and are now fascinated by the shiny Chevrolet with a postwar Buick ahead and followed by what is probably a 1936 model of the same brand. Behind them are a De Soto and DKW and in the same row, next to the misbehaving Kadett, a Renault Juva (?).
2 to the right comes a Hudson Super 6 or maybe a Commodore if it was a straight 8
and behind it 3 US cars side by side,
'36 Hudson, another Chev and a '46-'47 Ford. 3 places left of this trio comes a Peugeot 202 Utilitaire flanked by a 1938 Ford V8 and in the same line another Buick and a 1936 Ford V8. Next row, second from left, could be a small British made Fordson Van. I would walk a mile (or 10) for a stroll amongst them.
