(re-issue)We are on our way through france. (Sorry in modern Lancia I am afraid, but that is the only way to tranport three children + M/P. We should start saving for a big tourer.)Anyway, whether you are planning a big trip or just cruise around town or wherever you go: drive safely, don't drink & drive, have a great time and keep your machinery in one piece. Saint Christophe will travel with you.(photo by editor)

minerva_design_250.jpg

(re-issue)We discovered an old photo of a Minerva design. Belgium's most famous car with their strong sleeve valve engines. The interesting art deco design was made for Mr. Paul van Zeeland. We are quite intersted in the story behind this car. Who is the designer? Who was Mr. van Zeeland? Was the car ever built? Please send your comments. Clic the pic for a short Minerva history and photo's of Bill Sides of Australia. (photo collection editor)(orig. 14-01-02)

ford_t_locomotive_250.jpg

(re-issue)Based on a Model T Ford a certain 'Henry' Taylor built his own locomotive. For his motives we can only guess. (photo collection editor)

girls_summer01_250p.jpg

The offices of PreWarCar will be temporarily closed. So for the next few weeks we'll throw the car in retro gear and show you some earlier photos and unsolved mysteries. While our girls take a dip in the North Sea our staff will do the gruelling work of checking links and adding new cars. The girls promised to be back within two weeks from now. In the meantime take our apologies for small defects. Hope to see you back soon.(snapshot, collection editor)

Yes PreWarCar will close the offices temporarily. We're off for camping in France. Two weeks no news, no mysteries, no competitions, no UPDATES, no prewar cars...(hope our postwar Lancia Thema will hold up). But, the show must go on. Executive assistants Alexander and Max will keep an eye on incoming cars and cars that are sold. Also they will put on 'air' old mysteries and other maybe still intersting earlier features. In the meantime, drive carefully and have fun. See you in two weeks. (photo collection editor: a 1924 Chrysler Six model B 70 Touring as finally determined by Leif Holmberg)

triumph_1938_dolomite_project_250.jpg

We consider to begin a contest of the best sales photo. This one is not bad at all. A 1938 Triumph Dolomite saloon project shot in the late afternoon. On the left the old barn the car has left minutes ago for the photo. No concrete industrial hall. On the foreground at the right a little edge of what the car could look like in the (near). In the background a promising piece of landscape for some old fashioned motoring fun. The only mistake is the piece of tarp. It makes you remind how sad the car was parked in the maybe leaking shed. In a scale from 1 -10 this photo is an 8. Without the tarp and just a bit more of the foreground promise it would have been 10. But remember this, no matter the quality of the photo, it's the metal that counts. Interested in this very rare prewar Triumph? Check our Triumph page. (photo courtesy Steve Jacobs)

barnfind_fiat_topolino_250.jpg

'This piece of scrap behind the barn...away with it.' Ok, in our eyes it's nothing less than a 'project'. Connoisseurs immediately recognise a commercial version of the Fiat Topolino (check the gallery of the Italian Fiat Topolino Club). But maybe it's not the pure Topolino, it might be the licence built Simca-Fiat. We found some history (www.Atalante-Models.com) about that one as well. (photo Jan Stellingwerff)

lorraine_dietrich_250.jpg

This true thirties tourer is a Lorraine Dietrich that was in the ownership of the respected Detroit patent attorney -and keen French car collector- Irving Silverman. He owned the car from sometime in the seventies to maybe halfway the eighties. We would love to know the exact type of car it is and what happened to it later on. Maybe it is still somewhere in the US. In case you think, huh Lorayne-Whatto? Did you know that Lorraine-Dietrich started building V-8 engines (Wright Patterson Air Force Base) for WWI airplanes as from 1917 ! Okay Cadillac started mounting V-8 engines in cars in 1915, but... UPDATE by Baron A. Labitte de Montripier: '...was NOT the first. That was De Dion Bouton in 1908...' (photo collection editor)  Read more

No BSA Scout, no Riley, but yes, very British indeed. It's a 1932 SS II Coupe, with Standard sidevalve engine. Car's like these you will find at Zwakman Motors Europe, probably world's largest restauration company of prewar SS and Jaguar cars. A new phenomenon with this competition is the first three time winner. Applause for Theo Castricum from Holland !!!(we asked him to be a jurymember from now on). Come on you Brits, brush up your vintage knowledge, it's your heritage!
EARLIER TEXT: Sorry for the strange angle of photography, but it was hard to get near to this automobile in the attic of a major restaurer in Europe. From this perpective the car may look common, but beware! At no charge we give you a big hint by showing you the front end, where as usual we took out a little something. The best detailed answer that is in before Sunday 23 June, 23.59 hrs Greenwich Mean Time will win the PreWarCar T-shirt. Please add ' # 21 ' in the subjectline of your e-mail. (photos by editor)

maybach_radiator_logo_250.jpg

Update by Egbert Pos: see www.Maybach-Manufaktur.com the official new Maybach website.
EARLIER TEXT: Finding a Maybach is a very rare opportunity. This state of the art Teutonic means of transport is only for the very very rich. But at last there is a cheaper way out. A new Maybach! No longer a Geneva, Detyrot, Tokyo show object but for sale for everybody. That is to say for everybody who still has soem 400.000 Euro or a bit less in US dollars. For prospective buyers we have found a spot with a wealth of visual and other information. As one can understand is www.Maybach.com still 'under construction'. But not so at www.carclassic.com. Enjoy and don't forget to see the relax seats in the rear. (photo by editor)
