Original text from the advert:
1915 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Chassis 9AD. 9AD was ordered by one Nicholai Tchitchkine of Moscow Russia. It was fitted with engine 49s and nickel plated fittings. Coachwork was by Barker. It was shipped via Rolls Royce Paris via Petrograd. Interestingly Another Tchitchkine, Alexander owned chassis 2503 in Moscow; Surely a relative we surmise. By the early 20’s it was in possession of John Ringling of the famous Ringling Brothers Circus with residence in Alpine New Jersey & Sarasota Florida. We believe the car to have been kept at the Sarasota residence, (a 30 room Venetian styled mansion called Ca d’Zan) & thus it seems the car spent almost 70 years in the Sarasota area. Ringling owned 6 other silver Ghosts. By 1956 Chassis 9AD was owned by Mr Herbert J. Horn of Sarasota & was displayed in the Sarasota classic car museum. It was still in the museum in the ‘70s. The car was bought by a Mr Krogman of Germany who has been its custodian for the last few decades. We found it with him stored in an underground bunker along with 15 or so other cars, including assorted other Rolls Royces. There is speculation amongst the previous owners that the car is in some way associated with Nicholas II, Czar of Russia. We are still researching this angle, but as yet have no definitive proof of this. The car is to be sold fully serviced & in excellent mechanical condition. It appears not to have covered a vast mileage due to residing most of its life in collections where it rarely turned a wheel. The bodywork is in very very tidy, whilst not concours condition. The rear compartment is in superb condition & appears to be original to the body. If it is not original then it is certainly very very old!! In addition to the rear bench seats are two occasional seats folding out of the rear bulkhead. The front is fitted with black leather replaced about 15 years ago. A speaking tube is intact running from the rear compartment to a spot close to the chauffeurs ear. The car is fitted with dual side mount spares. Mechanically the car appear sound & not to have covered a vast mileage. The engine bay is clean & will be detailed as soon as servicing is complete. It is very tidy under the bonnet. A modern coil is fitted but is being moved to a discreet out of sight location. We are at the same time conducting a general tidying up of assorted loose wires etc. The car is currently going through our workshops right now. A full report & compression test will follow along with attending to minor niggles such as a slight air leak to the inlet manifold. The car is fitted with a modern electric starter as the last owner was 84 & unable to easily start the car on the handle. This could easily be removed to return the car to its original condition. The car currently has the assorted non original requisites such as bumpers & turn signals allowing it to pass the strict German TUV test. These may be removed prior to shipment if the new owner so desires. Please ask for Richard Biddulph to discuss the purchase of this artefact.
